Copy And Share Everything

If you have been on the Splitcoaststampers site, you have likely seen the term CASE on several posts. In case you were wondering what that means, it stands for Copy And Share/Steal Everything. Basically, Splitcoaststampers is a huge community of people stealing like artists. 🙂

This is one of the many reasons I love this site. It is a great place for inspiration and everyone wants to inspire everyone else. You can practically feel the love when you look through the posts. (Ok, that might be overstating it, but it is nice looking through the beautiful work people want to share.)

A few months ago, I found a card posted on Splitcoaststampers by sistersandie in the gallery for the Gorgeous Grunge set (one of my favorite sets). I liked how she used the stamps to make a stripe of splats. It seemed like a perfect Father’s Day card, so I decided to CASE it.

The design is pretty much the same, but I changed the colors and used a different sentiment. You can see the difference a couple of small changes can make if you look at my card posted here and then look at the one posted by sistersandie.

If you find yourself stuck on a project, be it making a card, painting, drawing, or whatever, find a place where others have shared their work and think about ways you could do something similar with your own spin on it. Remember what Picasso said:

Good artists copy; great artists steal.

 

Making the card:

For this card, I used the Gorgeous Grunge set from Stampin’ Up! and the sentiment is from Inkadinkado. The paper is Whisper White and Always Artichoke with Always Artichoke, So Saffron, Bashful Blue, Tangerine Tango, and Crumb Cake inks.

  1. Cut the paper for the main part of the card in Always Artichoke and the Whisper White panel for the front.
  2. Start with the largest of the splatter stamps and stamp it twice each with the Bashful Blue and Crumb Cake to establish the bulk of the line.
  3. Use the next smaller stamp and stamp three times each with So Saffron and Tangerine Tango making sure the general splatter line is followed.
  4. Use Always Artichoke with the stamp with the tiny splatters to go over the line and tie in the color of the main part of the card.
  5. Stamp the sentiment using Always Artichoke.
  6. Finally, attach the Whisper White panel to the Always Artichoke card.
